Interior Design Tips: How to get your furniture arrangement right?

Interior designing is more of a skill than an art. Certain rules cannot be ignored because that is the correct way from every angle. The same thing applies when you are arranging your furniture. Every room has different furniture pieces, and so they are arranged differently. However, certain pointers help in the furniture arrangement of any room. Let us find out what they are so that you can get your furniture arrangement right.

Consider the functionality of the room

This simply means you should know what you are going to use a particular room for. Which one will be the living room? Which one will be the bedroom and which will be the kitchen? That way, you will have an idea about the number of furniture pieces that your room can accommodate as per the size of the room. Before you start arranging the furniture this is an essential step so, make sure you take some time to find out what and how many furniture pieces you have to arrange.

Choose a Focal Point

This is an essential rule of interior designing. Every room should consist of a focal point. It has many reasons. A focal point will help the viewer’s eyes direct to your desired location. It can help you create the illusion of a larger room. It can help in showing the style of interior design and also showcase your personality. When it comes to furniture arrangement, having a focal point gives you an idea about where most of the furniture will be facing. For example, in the living room, it could be a fireplace or Television Unit. In the bedroom, it could be the bed itself and so on.

Prioritize the large pieces

Now that you know where to start, the best residential interior designers suggest you place the bigger furniture pieces first. For example the couch or the bed. That way, you will know what space you have left and if maybe there is any extra space for that loveseat that you want. Or maybe there is no extra space left as you had planned,  and you have to drop the idea of that antique cabinet that you liked. As a residential interior design company, we would like to give you a bonus tip that gives your furniture space to breathe. Do not stack them up against the wall.  If you have less space,  build an inbuilt shelf behind the furniture piece.

Think about the traffic

How will a person navigate their way around the room? Which direction will they head to to get to a certain room? Does the room have enough space for that? Will the room be congested now allowing the person the move? Will the gate or window block? Think about all these factors before you go about placing the furniture. After you have a brief idea about how much space to leave between different furniture pieces, you will be able to arrange the furniture better.

Choose Variety

This is exactly what it suggests. Do not stick to one or two furniture pieces. Use variety. Bring in different types of statement chair sets. Place multiple tables. Have a couch. Place that quilted seat that you loved so much. The point is, do not hold yourself back from playing around with different pieces of furniture.

Create Contrast

Now that you are choosing a variety of furniture, make sure you get the pieces that help you create contrast in the future. In simple words, use different shapes and sizes. Let the eyes move back & forth and travel up & down. If you have added a lot of straight lines, add a few curves to create warmth in the room. This will make sure that the room does not look monotonous.

Ease of Use

What this means is how well you can use a piece of furniture. For example, if you are sitting in a chair, is your hand comfortably reaching the table? Or can you relaxedly move your feet up to place them on the center table? Do consider all of these before you lay out your arrangement. The furniture pieces should not be too close to each other but also should not be too far apart.

As an interior design company with a team of experienced professionals, we suggest you take a piece of paper first. And before going about placing the furniture, you draw a rough draft of how you will be arranging the furniture in the room. It will save you a lot of time and effort.
